NATIONAL FFA BAND

STATE STAFF INFORMATION AND APPLICATION FORM

Enclosed is the necessary information to help you in approving members for the National FFA Band. Our thanks in advance

for your excellent cooperation in recommending talented students. Late cancellations and conflicting schedules cause a

great deal of difficulty in the music and performance planning. Please help us by making sure that all the students’

applications are sincere in their interest, and if accepted, they can participate.

It is important that many members apply. This will aid in organizing a band with full instrumentation and balance.

Unusual instruments such as piccolo, flute, oboe, bassoon and French horn should be included in the nomination.

HOW TO RECORD YOUR AUDITION CASSETTE TAPE

FOR THE NATIONAL FFA BAND

RECORDING AUDITION CASSETTE TAPE

1. This cassette audition tape is a requirement in application for the National FFA Band. Recording

is simple...and allows the director to properly place you for this prestigious band.

2. If you want to use a higher quality recorder that's fine...but a simple recorder with a built-in

microphone is adequate.

3. Use a cassette tape that is of high quality. If the tape is of poor quality, there could be problems

with play-back or mechanical difficulties. Each year there are students who are not selected

because the tape is of poor quality and jams or breaks in the recorder.

4. Print your name and address, plus your instrument, on side one of cassette tape label. Also, be sure your

full name and return address are on the mailing package. The application (with audition cassette

tape) is due to the National FFA Band Director by July 1. (Check with your state association for

possible earlier deadlines.) Tapes will not be returned, and will become the property of the

National FFA Organization.

5. Start your recording on side one of the cassette.

Step 1: Slowly announce your name and address.

Step 2: Repeat your name, and then give your instrument.

Step 3: Begin playing the Chromatic scale (as many octaves as you can play it)

or drum rudiment.

Step 4: Play the major scale of your choice...or another drum rudiment.

Step 5: Next, play your part to your school song, or a favorite march.

Step 6: Play a solo and/or technical study to demonstrate your skills.

6. That's all there is to it. Good luck!
